Want to use your favorite song for music on hold on your PBX? Here's how to convert an MP3 file to a mono 8000khz WAV file for use with the open source PBX Asterisk.
First you will need to make sure you have the programs 'ffmpeg' and 'sox' installed on your Linux workstation.
1. Convert the mp3 into a wav:
ffmpeg -i <MP3_FILE> <WAV_FILE>
2. Convert the wav file into a mono 8000hz wav
sox <SOURCE_WAV_FILE> -r 8000 -c 1 -s <OUTPUT_WAV_FILE> resample -ql
3. Copy the file to your music on hold directory and configure musiconhold.conf accordingly.
